Essien believes that baah is well worth a contract

Michael Essien (pictured) has spoken out in support of his young compatriot, Gideon Baah, as the reality TV show winner completes his trial at Stamford Bridge.

The 16-year-old Ghanaian outdid 32,000 other hopefuls to win the Metro MTN Sports Academy show, meaning that he was eligible for a trial with Chelsea.

He seems to be impressing both senior and junior players, with Michael Essien speaking out in support of the rookie.

Essien told The Daily Mirror, "I have monitored his performance and think he is capable of fitting into the academy and progressing.

"I am confident if he is given a contract he'll develop into a world-class player for Chelsea and can also develop to help my country."

Youth team captain Nana Twumasi then told the Ghanasoccernet, "Gideon is a fantastic talent with amazing skills and he has already won many hearts here at the academy."

Baah himself, wearing the number 52 jersey, added, "I can't believe what is happening to me."
