Uganda 2-0 Rwanda
As the CECAFA Championship continues in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania, Uganda have become the latest team to progress to the quarter-finals after sinking Rwanda 2-0.
Second half goals from Simeon Masaba and Assan Bajope ensured the Ugandans' victory, and took the Cranes' goal tally to nine after just two games played. The first goal arrived in the 69th minute when the Rwandan centre-backs were indecisive following a Dan Wagaluka's free-kick, allowing the unmarked Masaba to put the ball into the net from the near post. The second goal was almost identical to the first. It also came from a Dan Wagaluka's free kick; the centre-backs were once again unable to deal with the ball, allowing Assan Bajope muscle his way in between them to head home the second goal in the 86 th minute of play. Rwanda responded to this striker with frustration, and had their player Mutesa Mafisango sent off for a rash challenge as the game drew to a close. Coach of the Ugandan Cranes, Laszlo Csaba, praised the overall efforts of his players. "It was a great performance from everybody - the determination told in the result," an elated Csaba said to reporters after the game. In the other group game Eritrea narrowly defeated Djibouti by 3-2, ending the aspiration of the Djiboutian national team for this year. The CECAFA championship is a regional tournament that brings together teams from central and eastern Africa. source:goal.com |
