Up until now, the Chelsea striker has been defiant over a knee injury that he just had to go under the knife for a little over a week ago, but there has now been a significant change of tone from the Ivorian powerhouse prompting serious concern that the injury is worst than first feared.
"I've no idea when I'll play again," Drogba admitted. "No player would go under the knife at this crucial time if it was not serious.
"I can't say really when I'll be back. There's a possibility of missing the African Nations Cup."
Ivory Coast fans will be praying that their inspirational captain will be back in time for the 21st of January as that is when the Elephants are scheduled to square off against their biggest rivals for the African title the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
English giants Chelsea will also be monitoring the 29-year-old’s progress very closely, of course, as Drogba is fundamental to their title ambitions as well.
