Kivuvu Picks Netherlands Over Angola
Dominique Kivuvu has rejected the opportunity to represent Angola at the African Cup of Nations in Ghana in January.
The Palancas Negras wanted the 20-year-old to join them for pre-tournament training, only for Kivuvu to turn down the chance to play in Africa's premier tournament. "With my two passports and no [full] caps, I can still make the decision to choose for Holland or Angola," the BBC quoted him as saying. "I am hoping to be part of the Dutch Olympic football team at the Games in Beijing 2008." The former Stormvogels-Telstar defender would have been the only Netherlands-based player in the Angoloan squad; as it stands, then, Ghana have three Dutch-based players, and a fourth with joint Dutch-Ghanaian nationality, albeit being based in Spain. In terms of other joint-nationality players seeking Dutch success, Moroccan-eligible Ismael Aissati has turned down the option of playing for the Atlas Lions in favour of trying his luck with the Oranje. source:goal.com |
