Cameroon Confirm Eto'o Can Play For Barça

The Blaugrana striker was at the centre of of mixed messages on Tuesday as a spokesman for the Cameroonian Football Federation stated he should joing the international squad immediately.

That would have meant Eto'o missing the first leg of the Copa del Rey against Sevilla and the league game on Saturday against Real Murcia.

Coach Frank Rijkaard had claimed that the club had written permission to field the goalscorer in both those matches, but that drew a sharp reaction from Cameroon.

Now the president of the African nation's federation, Mohammed Iya, has come forward to confirm that Barça do have an agreement in place to play him.

"The coach (Otto Pfister) has spoken to the player and he accepts that he will play this weekend then join the squad later," Iya told radio station RAC-1.

"Eto'o will be able to play both these games with Barcelona."

Iya admitted that Pfister was against Eto'o playing in the matches at first, but was then convinced that his fitness would improve if he did.

"The club's doctors explained that it was imporant that Samuel continue to play rather than being coaches after his injury," Iya added.
