Katongo And Chansa Banned For Zambias Opener
Vice-President of the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) and former international striker Kalusha Bwalya had last week told local media that Captain of the team Katonga and Chansa were eligible to play for the squad against Sudan in the Nations Cup despite the yellow cards they received during the qualifiers.
But speaking with local paper The Post yesterday, general-secretary of FAZ Fidelis Banda insisted the association has received word from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to the effect that the two players are banned for the game. "Yes, we have correspondence from CAF that the two [Katongo and Chansa] players are banned for the first match," he said. "It is well known… the two will miss the Sudan match," he added. The Chipolopolo Boys of Zambia are in Group C of the Cup, alongside Egypt, Cameroon and Sudan. source:goal.com |
