Santos Scores A Brace To Secure A Smooth Win Against Bafana Bafana
Bafana Bafana were punished for some poor defending, with Brazil born Santos starring with two goals and an assist, before Katlega Mphela got a consolation for the 2010 World Cup hosts.
Santos, who is returning from a long term knee injury, was selected in the squad despite having playing only one game for his club all season, and made the most of the start. The first goal came in the sixth minute after South Africa failed to deal with a corner, and he rose well to head in Ben Saada's cross. Nasief Morris headed Steven Pienaar's tantalising free-kick just over in the 20th minute, but that was as far as Parreira's boys would come to equalising all game. In the 31st minute, Santos struck the post after a deligghtful run into the opposite area, but Ben Saada was at hand to turn in the rebound and make it 2-0. South Africa's misery was complete minutes later as Santos latched onto a poor back pass, cooloy rounded the goalkeeper, and slotted in for his second of the game. Tunisia chose to conserve energy and absorb the pressure in the second half, and Santos almost had his hat-trick in the 63rd minute when picked out by Yasin Chikhaoui on the break. However, he lost his footing and failed to take what would have been a deserved third goal. Mphela got an 87th minute consolation for his team, a goal that could prove useful depending on results on the final day. The win leaves Tunisia and Angola in joint first place with four points each, while South Africa and Senegal having secured just one each. Should the two leaders play out a draw on the final matchday, the latter two will crash out. However, as of now, all four teams remain alive in the competition. source:goal.com |
