Angola Fight Back To Sink Senegal
Senegal rested on their laurels too early, allowing a spirited and determined Palancas Negras side to show their class and rack up a 3-1 win.
The opening stages offered relatively little, with Tony Sylva spilling a cross (and subsequently changing his shirt due to its confusing the referee) perhaps indicating that Angola narrowly had the better of it. But El-Hadji Diouf showed that his side is a constant danger by floating in a deep free kick for Diagne-Faye to head home at the far post after Diawara tipped the ball across goal. There were only 20 minutes gone and Angola were now on the back fit, leaving Diop and Diouf to run riot. Indeed, with just minutes to go before the interval, Diouf seemed certain to score after being put through on goal by Mendy, only for Angolan stopper Lama to brilliantly race off his line and block. Angola seemed to have lost their initiative even after the second half began, with Lama preventing a doubling of the lead by parrying Diouf's free-kick. But Manucho threw the game right back into question with a 50th minute equaliser. The new Manchester United recruit was able to nod home expertly at the far post after a deep cross. Senegal immediately struck back, with Niang only just shooting past the post and then struggling to meet a ball across goal seconds later, but Angola recovered to then test Sylva through Maurito. And they then took a dramatic lead, as an uncharacteristic error from Sylva saw the ball spilled across goalmouth. Manucho was there to race forward and bundle the ball over the line with an indeterminate body part. That kind of will to win was clearly paying dividends, and it did so further when deadly Flavio made it 3-1 13 minutes from the end with a fine header, albeit an unmarked one. Senegal were struggling to come back into the game, with few chances of note in the dying minutes source:goal.com |
