Osorio leaves Chicago after a successful run
In a move that opens the door for him to take over as head coach of the New York Red Bull, Juan Carlos Osorio has officially left the Chicago Fire. The move was announced on Monday, coming just a little more than five months into his first year with the club.
"Despite the Fire's best efforts to keep Juan in Chicago, he determined that he needed to leave Chicago for family and personal reasons," said Fire President John Guppy in a statement. "While we certainly respect his decision, the timing of the departure was unexpected and is unfortunate. All of our attention is now focused on finding the right coach for our team." The Fire will receive compensation from the Red Bulls in the form of draft picks, salary cap allocation money and cash. Specific transaction details will not be disclosed, according to the Fire. Osorio leaves Chicago after a successful run, which resulted in a berth in the Eastern Conference Final on the heels of a 5-2-6 record in the regular season since taking over for Dave Sarachan in July. The former Manchester City assistant coach is set to be announced as Bruce Arena’s successor in New York, a place that he spent time with as an assistant coach in 2000 and 2001 when the team was known as the MetroStars. source:goal.com |
