FC Dallas Sign Club America's Davino
FC Dallas signed Club America defender Duilio Davino to a two-year contract on Wednesday, shoring up a backline that lost Clarence Goodson to the San Jose Earthquakes in the Expansion Draft in November.
The 5-foot-11 centerback has earned 84 caps with the Mexican National Team and more than 320 appearances with Club America since signing with the club in 1997. "We are delighted to add a player of his immense quality to our defense and to our team," FC Dallas coach Steve Morrow said. "This team needs a leader in the back and he will provide that." The 31-year-old Davino signed a standard deal and will not be classified as a Designated Player a la L.A. Galaxy’s David Beckham, Chicago Fire’s Cuauhtemoc Blanco and New York Red Bulls’ Juan Pablo Angel. Davino should improve interest in the Hispanic market surrounding the greater Dallas area. "Without a doubt he is probably one of the more popular Mexican soccer players in this market," FC Dallas General Manager Michael Hitchcock said. "He almost has a rock-star status." source:goal.com |
