Maradona Furiously Demands Apology From 'The Sun'
There were several comments during an explosive interview published by The Sun, including comments about Pele, David Beckham and Ashley Cole, as well as an apology for the 'Hand of God' goal.
The apology has since been denied, but Maradona wants a full apology from the daily for the misrepresentation of his comments. "The Sun love to start trouble," he said. As for the supposed apology, he once again insisted he had offered no such thing. "No, because you can't change history," Maradona told Radio La Plata, of Buenos Aires. "I also told Gary Lineker the same thing when he came to my house in Buenos Aires. "I only have to ask for forgiveness to the Boca Juniors fans because I missed five consecutive penalties, and nothing more." Beckham Talk "They also published that I said bad things about [David] Beckham," he continued. "I said he was a great footballer who coud shoot very well. They published that I said he was just another player." Maradona said he found out about what was published about him when he was in Madrid, and that he didn't like it one bit. "In Spain, I read that the Argentines were angry with Maradona because I asked for their apologies [The English]. I couldn't believe it," he said. "I identify myself with that match against England. It wasn't just another match. We beat them with football, and showed that we were superior to them. "We have to be very careful. My teammates ran on my side. They knew how much I worked. Why would they want to talk?" Aguero On another topic, Maradona said he identifies himself with Atletico Madrid striker Sergio Aguero, who is the boyfriend of his daughter, Giannina. "I identify myself a lot with him as a footballer. I am happy for them." source:goal.com |
