Romario Hangs Up His Boots After 27 Years

Brazilian football legend and star striker Romario has finally decided to call it quits after a glittering career which lasted for an amazing 27 years.

The 42-year-old striker told Rio's O Dia newspaper on Friday that he was out of shape and physically unable to return after months of inactivity. He was last seen in action for for Vasco da Gama against Internacional in November and was banned for using drugs, but when the court overturned its verdict in February, there was speculation that he could return to Vasco or former club Flamengo.

"I am not going to return to Vasco. I am not going to work now and they are not paying me but our friendship continues," Romario said.

"I have talked to the board about my decision. On Sunday I am going to travel to the Caribbean.
"I have made this decision myself. If I had wanted to continue playing I would have returned to Vasco but that is not in my thoughts.
The former PSV Eindhoven, Barcelona and Valencia forward told O Dia newspaper
"I want to be with my children and we are traveling a lot. This makes me happy."
He was know for his speed and endurance which made him one of the most prolific strikers of 90’s. He will be remembered for guiding the Brazil national team win the 1994 FIFA World Cup against Italy. He was selected the FIFA World Player of the Year and won the World Cup Golden Ball in 1994 and named as one of the Top 125 greatest living footballers as part of FIFA's 100th anniversary celebration.

The 1994 World Cup winner said that from March 30 he "would be unemployed and looking for a job".

Soccerslave team remembers him as one of the greatest footballers ever who has scored tons of goals and entertained the whole world with his skills. We wish him good luck for rest of his life.
