Asia WCQ Wrap: Oman, China, Hong Kong, Tajikistan Stroll Through
On a busy night of World Cup qualifying action in Asia, Oman notched one goal in each half to beat Nepal 2-0 on Sunday, emulating the same result at home back in Muscat on October 8.
Despite fielding their strongest squad, including Bolton wanderers keeper Ali Al-Habsi and Qatar-based fit-again striker Badr Al-Maymani, the visitors never really impressed throughout, with schemer Fawzi Bashir responsible for what elegance their was in midfield. Hashem Saleh broke the deadlock after 29 minutes after beating his marker and lashing home from close-range past the stranded keeper. The same shotstopper was responsible for the second goal by misjudging a swinging ball in his 6-yard box for Mohamed Mubarak to fire home with ease nine minutes after the break. China added to their 7-0 home win over Myanmar with a 4-0 second leg score with all the goals coming in the first half and Hong Kong demolished Timor Leste 8-1 to take the tie 11-3 on aggregate. After a 1-1 draw in Dhaka in the first leg, Tajikistan thrashed Bangladesh 5-1. |
