Pohang Steelers Lift South Korean Title

After winning the first leg 3-1 a week previously, Brazilian striker Cleber Schwenck struck just before the break to give the south-eastern club a first league triumph since 1992.
Seongnam never really looked like overturning the deficit from the first leg and end a once-promising season empty-handed.
On a chilly November afternoon, a fairly quiet and tight first half exploded in action in the final minutes.
After 42 minutes, Pohang almost took the lead as a delicate chip from Brazilian playmaker Taveres rebounded off the crossbar with Seongnam goalkeeper Kim Yong-dae beaten.
There was nothing Kim could do about the opening goal which came just two minutes later.
When Schwenck collected the ball 30 yards out, there seemed little danger but the former Cruzeiro hitman beat two defenders and, from the edge of the area, lashed a right-foot shot into the top left corner of the net
The super strike shattered Seongnam and left the defending champions 4-1 down and with a mountain to climb.
Kim Hak-bom;s men needed a goal early in the second half to keep hopes of an eighth title alive but chances were proving difficult to come by.
The best came after 65 minutes when Seongnam striker Choi Sung-kuk found himself with only the Pohang goalkeeper to beat only to see Jung Sung-ryong get down quickly to save his low shot.
With that miss went Seongnam’s chances of protecting their crown and soon after German referee Peter Gagelmann sounded the final whistle to send the large contingent of travelling fans into raptures.
