Champions SAFFC Clinch Double With Cup Win
Stand in captain Aleksandar Duric scored a second half brace to lead the Warriors to their first Singapore Cup triumph since 1999.
But it was the Stags that took the lead in the sixth minute after a clever piece of finishing by Noh Alam Shah. The 27-year-old ran to meet Peres de Oliveira’s defence-splitting-pass before lobbing the ball over the advancing Shahril Jantan. On 18 minutes, the Warriors drew level as Therdsak Chaiman’s freekick from just outside the area sailed past Rezal Hassan and into the top corner. It was 2-1 to Tampines five minutes later after Ridhuan Muhamad ran into the box unchecked to slam the ball into the roof of the net. Rezal Hassan’s uncharacteristic spill collecting what looked like a simple catch in the 26th minute allowed the lurking Mustaqim Manzur to tuck the ball home. Six minutes before the break, Sutee Suksomkit found Peres at the edge of the six yard box and the Brazilian rounded Shahril before scoring to make it 3-2. Duric scored the first of his two goals on 62 minutes, bundling the loose ball home after Masrezwan Masturi’s effort was blocked by Rezal. With 12 minutes left, the 37-year-old forward climbed high to head the ball into the bottom corner despite the efforts of Rezal to claw the ball from crossing over the line. Alam Shah was sent off in stoppage time for violent conduct, kneeing Daniel Bennett in the chest inside the SAFFC penalty area. The win completes a clean sweep for the Warriors organisation who add the RHB Singapore Cup to their season’s haul of the COE Challenge Cup, NTUC Income-YEO’S Prime League and NTUC Income-YEO’S S.League. source:goal.com |
