Asians In Europe
Vahid Hashemian (Hannover and Iran)
A good day for the Helicopter though he should have scored at Hansa Rostock. He did the next best thing and after coming on after 69 minutes, he made two goals as Hannover scored three times in the last six minutes to win 3-0. Andranik Teymourian (Bolton and Iran) On the bench as Bolton crashed to a 4-0 defeat at Liverpool. Sun Jihai (Manchester City and China) The Chinese star was an unused substitute as City drew 1-1 at nearby Wigan. Lee Chun-soo (Feyenoord and South Korea) Lee is resting back in South Korea and is expected back in Rotterdam sometime this week. Tsuneyasu Miyamoto (Salzburg and Japan) Played the full game as Salzburg won 3-1 at Rapid Vienna. Yasser Hussain (Braga and Qatar) The former Manchester City player was missing as Braga defeated Maritimo 2-1. Rahman Rezaei (Livorno and Iran) The veteran defender was on the bench as Livorno drew 0-0 at Cagliari. Mehdi Mahdavikia (Eintracht Frankfurt and Iran) The 2002 Asian Player of the Year set up Frankfurt’s first goal for Christian Maicon Hening to equalize at VfL Wolfsburg. The game ended 2-2 and the Iranian was replaced with 13 minutes remaining. Lee Young-pyo (Tottenham and South Korea) The out-of-favour left-back replaced the injured Gareth Bale for the final 15 minutes as Spurs crashed to a 3-2 home defeat at the hands of Birmingham. Shunsuke Nakamura (Celtic and Japan) The playmaker is still out of action with a knee injury. Seol Ki-hyeon (Fulham and South Korea) The Sniper came off the bench for the last 20 minutes at Old Trafford but had little impact as Fulham lost 2-0 at Manchester United. Daisuke Matsui (Le Mans and Japan) The midfielder set up the winning goal for Gervinho after 79 minutes as Le Mans came from behind to defeat AS Nancy 2-1. The Japanese star was substituted two minutes later. Takayuki Morimoto (Catania and Japan) The teenage striker sat on the bench as Catania defeated Palermo 3-1. Lee Dong-guk (Middlesbrough and South Korea) The Lion King played the first 70 minutes of Boro’s 1-1 draw with fellow strugglers Reading. Lee played OK but missed a good heading chance in the first half. Naohiro Takahara (Eintracht Frankfurt and Japan) The Sushi Bomber missed Frankfurt’s 2-2 draw at Wolfsburg with a knee problem. Shao Jiayi (Energie Cottbus and China) The Chinese star is injured and will be absent from Cottbus’s survival fight for some time. Javad Nekounam (Osasuna and Iran) The inspirational midfielder is set to miss most of the season after damaging a cruciate ligament in pre-season training. Park Ji-sung (Manchester United and South Korea) Park is back in light training after his knee operation and should be back in action in January source:goal.com |
