I-League: East Bengal Back To Winning Ways
The loss leaves Salgaocar still looking for their first win of the season while Bengal stay in the top half of the table.
The red and gold brigade bounced back from the defeat to JCT last week and did well to create and score three goals. Bengal was guilty of not stamping their authority on the game after a Salgaocar player was sent off in the 62nd minute. The home team drew first blood when Brazilian striker Edmilson headed a Rahim Nabi cross from the right in to the net after 19 minutes. The scoreline stayed the same until five minutes after the restart when Salgaocar’s Biju Kumar headed home the equaliser. Nine minutes later, the hosts were back ahead. Edmilson's shot deflected off a Salgaocar defender and into the path of Ashim Biswas who fired home. After 62 minutes, the Goa outfit was reduced to ten men when Remus Gomes was given his marching orders for a rash challenge on Ashim Biswas. Six minutes later, the Kolkata giants increased their lead when Edmilson was tripped inside the box by Biju kumar and dusted himself down to convert the resultant penalty. The visitors pulled a goal back through Bengal old-boy Shylo Malswamtulunga after 76 minutes. East Bengal were left holding on as Salgaocar were denied by some fine saves by the India number one Subrata Pal. source:goal.com |
