I-League: Ten Man Air India Draw With Kerala
A blunder by referee Deepak Kumar cost Air India the game as they played 63 minutes with 10 men after striker Njoh Jean was sent off for a challenge on Viva’s Tutu George.
Njoh and Tutu went for a ball and both went down. In the process, the Viva defender did seem to get an elbow but the two players were quickly back on their feet while the play was on elsewhere. As soon as the ball went out of play, Tutu collapsed and was seen holding his chest and gasping for breath. Even several Air India players called for the stretcher. The referee Deepak Kumar had his back to the incident however, on consulting the linesman Dinesh Nair, he red carded Njoh to the shock of the Mumbai spectators and Air India bench. The Ghanaian defender came on the field instantly after the red card and lasted the full 90 minutes. Earlier in the match, the visitors took the lead with a 35 yard long shot by Tabia Othalo in the 16th minute. That strike was cancelled minutes later, by the Air India skipper Basheeru Mohd.Abbas. The second half saw Viva have a number of half hearted attempts on goal with their midfielders never really getting into the game. Viva's long-ball game suited the Air India defence, led admirably by Uttam Singh and Kerala failed to make the one man advantage count. Air India had chances and came close to scoring the winner on a number of occasions with Paresh Shivalkar shot and Dhanchandra header being a few inches wide. Viva face Mahindra United in their next match while, Air India play away at Mohun Bagan. source:goal.com |
