Urawa Reds Hit By Injury Woes
The Saitama side were dumped out of the Emperor’s Cup last Wednesday by lowly Ehime, were pipped to the J-League title by Kashima Antlers on Saturday and have also learned that playmaker Robson Ponte has a serious knee injury.
The Brazilian will be out of action for around six months after damaging his knee ligaments in the Reds’ final league game of the season, a 1-0 defeat at Yokohama FC. The 31 year-old will return to South America for treatment on the knee that will involve surgery and recuperation. The news comes as a blow to the Asian Champions as they prepare to do battle in the upcoming FIFA Club World Championship. Urawa will face the winners of the game between Asian runners-up Sepahan of Iran and New Zealand’s Waitakere United. source:goal.com |
