Soares takes over from caretaker boss Salem Halihodzic who was in charge for nine games of the current season.
The Bosnian’s reign was a success and the two-time Asian Champions League winners are sitting pretty at the top of the Saudi standings.
Halihodzic was a temporary replacement for Jose Candinho was resigned as boss in September.
Apart from a short time in charge of Lebanese team Olympic Beirut in 2002, Soares has spent his coaching career in his native Brazil and was in charge of Palmeiras in 2005.
