Fulham Confirm Song Interest
Sanchez has confirmed reports that he is hopeful that Song will arrive at Craven Cottage later this month for a trial. The 28-year-old will be a free agent at the end of December, when his contract with K-League outfit Suwon Samsung Bluewings expires.
Said Sanchez to Seoul daily Sports Khan: “If he is ready, he will have a trial.” “The report that Fulham have offered Song Chong-guk a trial is correct. We have been in contact with his agent and we hope to have a trial next week.” "The faster he has a trial the better, it will be good if he comes to England soon." After impressing during the 2002 World Cup, Song left for Europe and joined Feyenoord for three seasons. Despite playing in 53 matches and scoring two goals, Song failed to impress at the Dutch side. He returned to the K-League in 2005. The former Northern Ireland boss is willing to give Song a second chance to play in Europe and in the Premiership. The Suwon player can play at right-back or on the right side of midfield. And, the Craven Cottage boss wants to capitalize on his versatility. "We are thinking about signing a full-back during the winter transfer window and Song Chong-guk could fit the bill," added Sanchez. It seems ironic though, that he wants to sign another South Korean player. Song’s compatriot, Seol Ki-hyun, has not been a regular starter the club since his move from Reading. Other South Korean footballers are not faring well in the Premiership either. Manchester United’s Park Ji-sung is currently out injured. Tottenham defender Lee Young-pyo is likely to leave the club. Middlesbrough striker Lee Dong-guk arrived at the Riverside with the reputation of a prolific goal-scorer. Lee, however, has scored only once for Boro. Even if Song agrees to go on trial at Fulham, it remains to be seen if he can adapt to the physical rigours of English football. Song’s lack of pace and slight frame will prove disadvantageous in the Premiership. source:goal.com |
