Takahara Eager To Make Impact At Urawa
I will be a success at Urawa Reds, insists Takahara.
The Japanese striker returned to Japan from Germany on Wednesday with his heart set on impressing new Japan boss Takeshi Okada and to do well for the AFC Champions League holder. He moved from Eintracht Frankfurt to Urawa Reds for one million Euros. "I have always tried to play to my strengths to help the team win, whomever I play for. That won't change because I have changed team," said Takahara, after arriving at Narita airport. "I have a strong desire and want to stay in good condition and make sure of a place on the national team," he added. The former Jubilo Iwata player will be attending Japan's upcoming training camp in Kagoshima Prefecture. After a dismal second season with Frankfurt, Takahara made the decision to return to Japan with Urawa. The 28-year-old moved to Frankfurt after 2006 World Cup following a stint with Hamburg SV. Takahara scored 11 league goals in his first season with Frankfurt - a record for the highest number of goals in a single season by a Japanese player in European top-flight soccer. The ex-Boca Juniors striker netted four goals to help Japan reach the semifinals of last year's Asian Cup. Since then, hes been plagued by knee problems and it resulted in a dip in form at Frankfurt this season. source:goal.com |
