South Korea Will Miss Kim Byung-ji Due To Injury
Kim Byung-ji, 37, hurt his back in last Wednesday’s 1-0 friendly loss to Chile and has undergone surgery. The veteran Seoul FC custodain will be out of action for several weeks.
"Kim has been operated upon and if he recovers well then he could be back in action as soon as April, although it may take longer than that," an FC Seoul spokesman said. With Kim ruled out, newly-appointed South Korea coach Huh Jung-moo is short of options in the goalkeeping department. Former first choice shotstopper Lee Woon-jae is still serving a 12-month ban from the national team after late-night sessions during last year’s Asian Cup. To replace Kim Byung-ji, Huh is likely to call upon Gwangju Sangmu keeper Kim Yong-dae. And, the former Seongnam Chunma player will be using this opportunity to establish himself for the Taegeuk Warriors. "I haven`t been involved with the national team for a while," said Kim. "I am looking forward to showing what I can do." Meanwhile, ex-Shimizu S-Pulse striker Cho Jae-jin will start against Turkeminstan after FC Seoul forward Jung Jo-gook picked up a shoulder injury in the Chile defeat. Cho, 26, is expected to overcome an intestinal inflammation to feature in Wednesday`s match. Along with Turkmenistan, Jordan and DPR Korea are the other two teams involved in Group C. source:goal.com |
