Bahrain: Macala Eyes Qualification Together With Japan
Both Bahrain and Oman will be fighting to secure the second spot in the group to join Japan and progress to the next round of qualification.
But Macala has rated Bahrain’s chances better than Omani. The Czech tactician has previously managed the Omanis, where he spent three spells in charge of the Gulf side and led them to their first ever AFC Asian Cup finals appearance in 2004. "Our [Bahrain] chance to qualify to the final round of the qualifiers is big," he said. "The chances are Japan are the best in the group and the second place in the group will probably be between Oman and Bahrain. However, in football there is nothing impossible and there are no fixed results. The results will be determined at the matches." And the 65-year-old has no qualms plotting against his former paymasters to secure a winning result in their opening game in Muscat on Wednesday. Said Macala: "I know Oman very well as I have previously coached them. But I also bear it in mind that I am a coach and it is part of my job to do my best with my new team." Meanwhile, newly appointed Oman coach Julio Cesar Ribas believes his team are capable of getting a winning result against the Bahrainis. He said: "The most important thing for us is the match against Bahrain because if we had a successful start then we will have a good push for the remaining matches. We have followed Bahrain's preparatory matches and hopefully we will have a good result against them." source:goal.com |
