Alam Shah Set To Appeal Against Ban
The ill-tempered striker was handed a 12 months ban and fined for attacking Singapore teammate Daniel Bennett. Alam Shah kneed the defender in the head and kicked him as he lay on the pitch injured during last year’s Singapore Cup final.
He was subsequently barred from playing any club in all Singapore competitions – including the country’s domestic S-League. Alam Shah attempted to restart his playing career in the Malaysian Super League with the Police team. However, he was not allowed to turn out for the club as the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) insisted the one-year ban issued by world soccer's governing body FIFA is binding on all national bodies. Due to his suspension, Alam Shah was also not called up to the Singapore squad in the recent World Cup qualifier against Saudi Arabia. In an interview with Singapore’s Today newspaper, Alam Shah said he has to appeal to have his ban lifted because playing football is his only source of income. He said: "I have to appeal the decision now because football is my rice bowl. Hopefully they can reduce the ban and I can get back to playing competitive football this year." The 28-year-old was part of the Singapore team which clinched two consecutive Asean Football Federation Championships. He also finished top scorer and was also named Most Valuable Player in the 2007 competition. source:goal.com |
