Grant: "I can’t say it means a lot to me,"
In a move no doubt geared towards winding up Evertonians before tonight's Carling Cup semi-final second leg at Goodison Park, Chelsea manager Avram Grant says he's actually a fan of the Toffees' Merseyside rivals Liverpool.
Going further, the Israeli also said that the Carling Cup isn't important for his side, cuttingly suggesting that it's only small clubs who care about it. "I can’t say it means a lot to me," said Grant of the competition that Chelsea have won for two of the last three seasons. "If you could promise me by winning the Carling Cup we’d also take the Champions League, I’d take it.” The Stamford Bridge outfit are nevertheless favourites to reach this year's Wembley final after winning the first leg against the Toffees 2-1. But Reds fan Grant noted that as far as domestic cups go, it is always the FA Cup that he will hold dear. "The first English game I saw at Wembley was the 1977 FA Cup final - I was almost killed!" he joked. "I was in the Manchester United end supporting Liverpool. I guess I had the wrong hat on.” source:goal.com |
