Tottenham must up their offer For Downing
Middesbrough have indicated for the first time that they are willing to part with winger Stuart Downing. But if Tottenham Hotspur want to sign the player they must first stump up £10m.
A report in this morning's Times suggests that Gareth Southgate and the Boro board are now listening to Spurs' approaches, having batted away the long-term interest in Downing for over a year. The London outfit are understood to have tendered £9m for the player's services, but the Riversiders want another million pounds and are refusing to budge. A local lad and lifelong Middlesbrough fan, Downing has previously said that it was flattering being linked with Spurs. If the financial disputes are resolved it is probable that the England international would agree to leave his boyhood club in order to further his career. source:goal.com |
