Kenyon: "Going to Wembley is always special"
The win sees the Blues make their third Carling Cup final in four years, having won one of the previous two, and no doubt being touted as favourites for the upcoming clash against fellow finalists Tottenham Hotspur.
"What a great achievement," gushed Kenyon "Going to Wembley is always special but I think given what we've gone through, it's extra special. "The players that have performed, the players that have come into the squad, I think have just excelled and that tells you the strength we've got at Chelsea and what a great spirit. Chelsea's recent form - including seven wins in their last seven, and only one defeat in their last 27 games - is all the more impressive considering the injury and absence of several front-line players. Without doubt, the unprecedented spending spree in several players after the club was bought by billionaire Roman Abramovich has something to do with such unforeseen strength-in-depth, but the effort of the players who have come through for the Blues is nevertheless more than commendable. "I think it would have been too easy this year for everybody to talk down where we are because of the players we're missing," began Kenyon. "I think that's a great achievement for the players, for the management and for Chelsea as a whole because I think that makes tonight's victory just that bit more special." In similar fashion to last season, the club are still competing on all four fronts - the Carling Cup, the FA Cup, the Premier League and the Champions League - Kenyon is optimistic that this season can end up a great one in the history of the club. "I think we can go wherever we want because I think the spirit's there, clearly the team spirit's there, and the quality of players," he declared. "We've got real quality in depth and that's come through tonight." source:goal.com |
