Baros Moves To Pompey To Get First Team Action
The striker is set to begin training on Monday morning after completing his transfer from Lyon to Portsmouth over the weekend.
The former Liverpool and Aston Villa hitman will be on loan at Pompey until the end of the season after struggling to get a first team place in a less than successful spell in France. It is a deal that has come at exactly the right time for Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp, who has several players away at the Africa Cup Of Nations and saw David Nugent added to his injury list during the club's uncomfortable 2-1 victory over Championship side Plymouth on Saturday. Baros' agent, Pavel Paska, revealed that the player is desperate to get some playing time under his belt in order to be at his sharpest for the Czech Republic at Euro 2008. The agent also said that it was the familiarity of Premier League football that persuaded Baros to leave the French champions. "In England he knows perfectly the scene, the atmosphere and the style of football," said Paska. "He will need no time for adapting, he can play straight away." "Milan passed a medical today and signed the contract," added the agent. "On Monday morning he will have his first Portsmouth training session and on Wednesday he can make his debut against Manchester United." The news will come as a massive boost for the Portsmouth manager, who only has one striker, Benjani Mwaruwari, available at the moment. "We need Baros," said a relieved Redknapp. source:goal.com |
