Old Trafford Delighted With Scholes Return
The former England international came on for Michael Carrick after 65 minutes of Manchester United's 3-1 victory over Tottenham in the FA Cup fourth round tie at Old Trafford.
The 33-year-old midfielder seemed to slip ceaselessly back into his groove and is now likely to be considered for the starting line-up against Portsmouth on Wednesday evening. Alex Ferguson has revealed that Scholes is desperate to get back on the pitch and has described Scholes' return as being "almost like a new singing at a very important time". Fellow midfielder Owen Hargreaves agrees. "I think Scholesy’s probably one of the best players I’ve ever played with," said the ex-Bayern Munich star, speaking to MUTV after the game. "I think he’ll be one our most important players towards the end of the season now. If he's fit, he could be crucial." Hargreaves also added that it was inevitable that someone is going to have to make way for Scholes' return and said he would accept his manager's decision if it was him. "We can’t play every game," shrugged Hargreaves. "But the camaraderie’s there and everyone sticks together. As long as we’re successful I think we’ll all be happy." With games coming thick and fast as the Champions League starts up again in February, the comeback of one of United's most celebrated sons could not have come at a better time. source:goal.com |
