Spurs Set For Hutton And Woodgate Double Swoop
With transfer deadline day fast approaching Tottenham Hotspur will today bolster their defence with two new signings.
The north London side appear to have beaten Newcastle to the race for Middlesbrough centre-back Jonathan Woodgate. A £7.25m fee has been agreed with Boro for the former Real Madrid stopper, who should put pen to paper on a £60,000-a-week, 3-and-a-half-year deal at White Hart Lane today. Hutton To Follow Joining Woodgate will be Rangers' Alan Hutton. The 23-year-old has turned down Juande Ramos' side twice already this month, reportedly because he was hoping Manchester United may make an offer. But as Sir Alex Ferguson has failed to make his move, Hutton is now prepared to move to London and try his luck in the Premier League, with a £9m having been agreed between Spurs and Rangers. For their part, Tottenham were desperate to complete the signing as current right-back Pascal Chimbonda's White Hart Lane exit looms. The Sun claims Spurs have offered Hutton a £33,000-per-week wage packet, making him Scotland's highest paid outfield player, to make sure they get their man. More In The Pipeline? As has already been reported, a deal with German side Hertha Berlin for their Brazilian international Gilberto also looks near to completion, but Tiago's proposed move from Juventus appears to have collapsed, though the Bianconeri are pushing for a deal. source:goal.com |
