United Secure Top Spot Despite Derby Scare
Red Devils needed a late goal from their Portuguese star to regain top spot against a brave derby side
Defending champions dominated first half game, but debutant stopper Ben Foster was tested by Mile Sterjovski and Kenny Miller, who tried to take a shock early lead. First Half Ryan Giggs, returning as captain after missing last weeks FA Cup action against injury , he could have done better with his header but only succeeded in finding the arms of the Roy Carroll who was in blistering form tonight. It was just the beginning after that Ronaldo missed a chance when Evra handed him a low cross Giggs then had a wide shot after again being picked out by Park from the right, followed quickly by Ronaldo striking the base of the right-hand post with a low, curling shot from 15 yards. Derby Resistance Second half saw many more missed chances on booking from both the sides. Meanwhile, Derby pushed too hard to take the lead only to be denied by the talented Foster. But in the end it was Ronaldo who scored the goal from a side kick when he was provided a wonderful pass from Rooney. Despite many missed chances and early scares Man United secured all three points and now lead the table Last edited by voldemort; 03-15-2008 at 10:04 PM.. |
