Capello For England? Seedorf Offers An Insight...
Clarence Seedorf, the highly experienced Dutch midfielder who has won mnore than most in the game, has given a ringing endorsement of the credentials of Fabio Capello, the man now being widely tipped to succeed Steve McClaren as manager of the England national team.
Speaking to BBC Radio Five Live, Seedorf, the 31-year-old AC Milan midfielder, outlined the qualities that mak Capello an attractive proposition for the FA. Seedorf worked under the Italian when both men were at Real Madrid in the late 1990s, and the Dutchman has a lot of respect for both the 61-year-old coach and what he has achieved. "He is a tough guy, very straight, very dedicated," Seedorf told the BBC.."It has been quite a while since I was working with him in Madrid. He has much more experience now than he did 10 years ago. Then he was already one of the best coaches I have ever had'. Would he be suited to the England job? "I was talking with him, I think, two weeks ago about this possibility. He sees it as a very interesting challenge. I think it would be a very good thing for England to do [to appoint Capello]. "It is going to be a challenge for him. One of his major qualities is to get the best out of his players, to make sure everyone is committed to the team's goals. "He is very, very specific in what he wants and very clear what he wants from every player. Sometimes he really pushes you to the limits and that, of course, has proven effective." Regarding Capello's approach to the game, Seedorf revealed: "He has always asked for 100 per cent in training and on the field but he is not a very demanding person off the field. He can also drink a beer with the players in the bar or the hotel. "When the focus is on the training, then he really expects 100 per cent and not less. That has basically been his approach when I have been playing under him. "He would rather have less quality but committed players rather than quality players who are not committed. But he is also very experienced with great players and is able to get the best out of them." The issue of language has been raised as a possible stumbling block to the appointment of Capello for England, but Seedorf said: "He speaks English but I do not know how fluent he is. "He is a very intelligent man so I do not think he is going to have problems learning it fast. "Even in Spain in the first month, his Spanish was not that good but he made it very clear what he wanted. His body language is well known, so he will know exactly how to deal with it." source: Goal.com |
