Referee Issues Apology To Werder For His Blunder
Werder lost 2-1 to Marcel Koller’s side and fell three points behind Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga title race.
Bochum’s second half equaliser through Benjamin Auer was clearly offside but was allowed to stand by the match official. The decision was met with incredulous disbelief inside the Weser Stadion. The man in charge has however apologised for the incorrect decision which helped Bochum to their first ever win over Werder ay the Weser Stadion. "Normally, you don't apologise for every wrong decision, but in this case, I have to say sorry to Werder" he said. "It was clearly offside and I take full responsibility. The linesman should have spotted it, but I am the one who makes the decisions. "There is no getting round it, and I will be thinking about this a lot." Weiner also annoyed the home fans by sending off defender Naldo before Anthar Yahia scored the winning goal shortly before the final whistle. The loss was Werder’s second within a week following their DFB Pokal defeat to Borussia Dortmund. Trainer Thomas Schaaf for his part was not heaping all the blame on the referee. "We cannot afford to do this very often" Schaaf admitted. "We have got to point the finger at ourselves. We had enough chances to win the game." source:goal.com |
