Slomka Determined To Fight
Press reports from Germany claimed yesterday that the Schalke board had issued Slomka with a stark ultimatum- beat Bayern and Porto in the next two games or face the sack.
The Königsblauen trainer has responded in a bullish manner saying he is ready for the challenge ahead of him. “I am a fighter and I’m not giving up” he said in an interview with ‘Bild’. “With a win against Bayern on Saturday, we’ll have a good chance to go third. “And if we reach the quarter final of the Champions League against Porto on Wednesday, we’ll gain millions and international standing. We’ll need all our strength for these two matches” he added. Responding the apparent ultimatum from the Schalke board he said: “It was obvious that after the two league defeats that the voices calling for a new trainer would become louder. I know how things work. “I phoned the chairman of the board, Clemens Tönnies, on Monday. It was a very short and honest conversation, but I am up for the challenge and want to overcome it with my team.” It appears however that even if Schalke do win their next two matches, then the future of the trainer will not be secure in the long run, with the club already starting the hunt for his replacement. source:goal.com |
