Durand Cup Hero Odafa Delighted With Acheivements

The Nigerian netted a record 11 goals during the just concluded 120th Durand Cup in Delhi.
“I believe I played very well in the Durand Cup. We are happy to win this coveted trophy,” said an excited Odafa.
Churchill Brothers played four games and the burly striker, who left his mark in every match, played a part in all of them.
“We played our first game against Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). They had tried their best but we outplayed them. I scored four in that game," Odafa recalled.
“Next we faced Central Railways, who played very well in the first half and got the lead. In the next period, it was all Churchill and we won 6-1. I netted five.”
“The semifinal against Air India was tough. They have a good fighting spirit. Even if they trail by 6-0, they show the spirit to come back and win. This is something very rare. However, we won the game and entered the finals.”
“We scored the first goal in the very first minute itself which was disallowed as being offside. I beg to differ though. We got our only goal in the first half. Mahindra United did play strongly in the second half but failed to create any serious chances.”
“I dropped to the halfway line to help our defenders and make life difficult for the opposition.”
Odafa was full of praise for the club owners Churchill Brothers.
“They have shown their support and encouraged us to do well. They came to see the finals and were ecstatic.”
Last season’s topscorer in the NFL is preparing hard for this season’s inaugural I-League.
“I think I have improved as a player. The combination of proper rest and practice has helped me big time," he concluded.
