Dempo Defeat Churchill Brothers
The game began with both teams looking for that early goal but were denied by some strong defending on either side. Indian national team players Mahesh Gawli and Gouramangi Singh starred for the Goan sides.
Churchill were still without their key midfielders in the starting eleven that began to show as Roberto Mendes Silva or Beto began to control the game for Dempo. Bernard Pires and Daniel Martins who played very well against Mahindra showed their inexperience by often giving away possession easily. The first goal came in the first half injury time. Defender Valeriano Rebello took a freekick for Dempo and the Churchill custodian Vinay Singh came out to collect it but completely missed it. Beto made the most of this opportunity by heading the ball into an empty net. In the second half, Churchill Brothers could never create any real goalscoring chances. The game marked the return of midfielder Zenith who came on as a second half substitute. Odafa and Iyomi had an off day and that was also a reason for the loss. Dempo increased their lead through skipper Ranti Martins who headed the ball off a Nicolau Borges flag kick in the 66th minute. Churchill Brothers will hope that they have a full strength squad for the next game and would hope to come back to winning ways. Final Score : 2-0 Goalscorers Dempo : Beto (45+1) and Ranti Martins (66th) source:goal.com |
