Beginnings
Mboyo started playing football in his native Congo at the age of three. He represented his School and later college teams to win the local tournaments. Club Career The first step in professional football happened at the age of 17 when young Mboyo joined Sodigraf, one of the best clubs in Congo. He stayed there for two years and established himself as one of the most feared name in Congo league. In his very first season, he was the top scorer with 12 goals and helped his club finish second in the league. The next season was even better for Mboyo on a personal level as he netted 14 to retain his highest goalscorer title. His club however, finished fourth in the league. The Congolese next joined DCMP, another big club in Congo and scored 8 goals in a single season with them. Mboyo decided to ply his trade elsewhere having proved his credentials in Congo and when he got the chance to play in Yemen he grabbed it both hands. He joined Tilal Football Club in Yemen and stayed for three years. In spite of changing countries, Mboyo striking abilities remained the same as he quickly adapted to the Yemen League. He guided his team to be win the League by scoring 10 in the season. The following year, Mboyo netted 12 and his club finished third in the league. In his final year at Tilal, he added yet another feather to his cap by winning the President Cup. In the league, however, Tilal was relegated despite 14 goals from the talismanic forward. He joined Churchill Brothers days before the Durand Cup this season. He scored in the semifinals against Air India and instantly formed a fearsome striking duo with Odafa. Churchill went on to win the 120th Durand Cup. The I-League kicked off and already the striker has netted thrice in as many games. His two goals against Mahindra United at Cooperage fetched him the Man of the Match award. National Team He has represented his country on a number of occasions. He scored 5 in the Central African Cup, a six nation tournament, to help Congo finish second. He also was part of the 2002 Olympics squad. Mboyo has lately refused to play for the Congo national team as he feels there are a lot of problems back home. Aim “My aim like everyone is to one day play in Europe. Basically, play good football and earn good money,” says Mboyo. Most Memorable Moment “My most memorable moment was when in my very first year, I became the topscorer for Sodigraf,”said Mboyo nostalgically.
