Preview: Churchill Brothers vs East Bengal
Recent Form
Churchill Brothers scored eight goals in their first two games and haven’t scored a single goal in the last two outings. Against Dempo, they were outplayed and at JCT, stout defending made life difficult for their two talismanic strikers – Odafa Okolie and Mboyo Iyomi. The flair which is associated with Churchill Brothers has been missing in the last few games and they Karim Bencherifa led side would look to turn things around. East Bengal are coming into this game after a valiant 2-2 draw which has for sure acted as a confidence booster. The team has been bailed out often by goalkeeper Subrata Pal with his commendable saves. Though they are placed third in the table, they haven’t hit top form yet after a blistering performance at the Federation Cup earlier this year, which saw them lift the Trophy for the fifth time. Team News Churchill Brothers are still without their key midfielders –Fabio and Chitra. The woes in the midfield were apparent in the recent games and the Moroccan coach agrees. Speaking to a local daily, Mr.Bencherifa said, “Our main concern is the midfield which is not functioning but newcomer Carlos could add to our strength.” While, East Bengal are without Ashim Biswas, Surkumar Singh and M.Suresh, the coach was optimistic ahead of the key clash. The red and gold coach Subrata Bhattacharya was quoted saying, “Against Churchill, we will try to be more attacking as collecting full points will be our prime target.” Key Players Gouramangi Singh: He has been a revelation this season and easily the brightest spot for them. After warming benches for a number of clubs across India, Gouramangi has showed his defensive class and ability to the critics who had cast him off earlier. Subrata Pal: The Indian national team goalkeeper has come back from injury and saved East Bengal in the last two games. It will be an exciting to see how he manages to keep off the pressure from the deadly Churchill frontline which has failed to live up to its billing off late. source:goal.com |
