I-League: Mahindra Register Their First Win

Coach Derrick Pereira had promised a better display from his side and he lived up to it. After failing to create goalscoring chances and not being able to take them, the Red Devils did create one and finished it off to gain the lead in the very first minute.
The Mumbai club started with Surajit Bose upfront and the move paid, when he caught the Sporting defense napping by sending a perfect through ball for Douhou to place it into the net.
Mahindra United looked comfortable in the first half and didn’t give the opposition enough chances to trouble them.
Six minutes after resumption, Steven Dias fired the ball into the Sporting net from just outside the box to double the lead for the Devils. This was the first time Mahindra scored more than a single goal in the league this season.
Sporting did come back strongly into the match in the second half. The team was unlucky not have found the back of the net as Junior Elijah’s shot came off the post.
The Jeepmen skipper Sandip Nandy produced an exceptional performance to deny the Flaming Orange any chance to getting back into the game.
The final nail in the coffin came in the injury time when on loan striker Tarif Ahmed tapped in a Steven Dias cross to beat goalkeeper Felix D’Souza.
The win means Mahindra United are placed fifth on the table and porting are still reeling at the bottom.
Final Score : 3-0
Goalscorer Mahindra : Douhou (1st min), Steven Dias (51st min) & Tarif Ahmed (91st min)
