Washington Heads Home After Successful Stint With Urawa Reds
The 32 year-old scored 42 goals in 52 league games for the Saitama side.
In 2006, Washington was the joint top scorer of the J-League with 26 goals which propelled Urawa to a first ever domestic league title. In 2007, he was again on form as the Reds became the champions of Asia. Washington played his last game for the club in the third/fourth place play off at FIFA’s Club World Cup with Tunisian club Etoile Sahel. Fittingly he scored both goals as his team drew 2-2 and then went on to triumph in the penalty shootout. "We wanted to win this tournament, but there were some tough teams in it and you have to give them their credit," the Fluminese-bound striker said. "I owe a lot to the club and to the fans, and I'm glad we finished in third place. "I will remember the Reds supporters for the rest of my life. I will never forget them and want to say thank you to them.” source:goal.com |
