Bhaichung Scores The Winner For Bagan
The inevitable for East Bengal happened when Douglas’ floater from the edge of the box was headed by Baretto for an unmarked Bhutia to nod it home.
The fourth consecutive loss in I-League means that the Kolkata side’s title hopes are as good as over. Meanwhile, Mohun Bagan are just seven points adrift the league leaders – Dempo and JCT. Looking for three points, both teams began a physical game and the referee set the tone for the game as he didn’t hesitate to show six yellow cards within the first 20 minutes. The worst was when East Bengal’s Mehrajuddin Wadoo lunged on his own team mate Saumik Dey and was booked for the challenge in the 23rd minute. The spectators never got to see any disciplined attacks from either side as the sole motive was to keep the possession no matter how. The midfielders battled amongst themselves and sent long balls for their strikers to create something. To the surprise of many, Edmilson and Ashim Biswas aren’t the best of ball winners in air and it was shocking to see the red and gold adopt a strategy of long balls. East Bengal did manage to create a few chances towards the end but Edmilson and Biswas were guilty of missing some easy sitters. Mohun Bagan’s display wasn’t applaudable either but a moment of brilliance by Bhaichung Bhutia separated the two sides. The skipper later dedicated the goal to his wife Madhuri Tipnis who celebrated her birthday yesterday. Final Score : 1-0 Goalscorer Mohun Bagan: Bhaichung Bhutia (61st min) source:goal.com |
