I-League: Salgaocar Rally To Hold JCT
The draw means two dropped points for JCT though they are top of the table leading Dempo by a point having played an extra game. The Goan side is still at the tenth spot but they can take heart out of their display yesterday.
JCT took the lead through an Eduardo spot kick as Sunil Chhetri was brought down by defender Herry Habimana in the 10th minute. Post the first goal, Salgaocar made life difficult for the Punjab club with their series of planned attacks however; once again it was Felix Chimaokwu who was guilty of squandering a number of chances. At half time, however both teams ended on level terms as Chimaokwu found the far post off a Joe Rodrigues pass in the 40th minute. JCT went ahead for the second time in the game when Marcos Pereira headed in a Eduardo cross from the right. For reasons unknown, the JCT defense had an off day and Joe Rodrigues brought the home side back into the match with his equalizing header off a Nicolas Rodrigues cross. Two minutes later, JCT scored their third through defender Anwar from a Marcos Pereira flag kick. The two Rodrigues combined once again for Salgaocar with this time the goalscoring honors done by a Nicolas side stepper. Salgaocar would rue that they couldn’t clinch their first win as Milagres Gonsalves missed an open chance minutes before the final whistle. Salgaocar skipper Rocus Lamare was awarded man of the match. Final Score : 3-3 Goalscorers JCT : Eduardo (10th pen), Marcos (49thmin) & Anwar (63rd min) Goalscorers Salgaocar: Chimaokwu (40th min), Joe Rodrigues (61st min) & Nicolas Rodrigues (67th min) source:goal.com |
