Corporate Giants Bharti To Pump In Rs.100 Crore For Indian Football
“Football is the most popular sport and our aim will be to develop a rick football and sporting culture in India,” announced an exhilarated Sunil Bharti Mittal, Chairman and CEO of Bharti Enterprises.
“Our ambition is to see India qualify for the 2018 World Cup,” he added. The Academy will be named ‘Bharti- AIFF Academy’ and the company is also looking to partner Manchester United in its aim to develop Indian football. According to the Mou, Bharti will also sponsor the India U-16 team which has qualified for the Asian Cup. The Academy is expected to be either at Margoa or Gurgaon however, insiders reveal that the former is the selected place for the Academy. “The Academy we are planning will be on the lines of those in Europe and Latin America. By March 31, we will be able to start the work after finalizing the location,” said the AIFF President Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi.
