I-League Team Of The Week - Round 11
Goalkeeper
Sangram Mukherjee (MB): After a poor outing against Sporting, the former Indian keeper produced his best against Viva Kerala. Brilliant saves off Wisdom Abbey and Bimal Barua saved the day for his team. Defenders Habibur Rehman Mondal (MB): The youngster made some excellent runs on the right and one such run resulted in a Bhaichung Bhutia goal for the Green and Maroon. Mahesh Gawli (Dem): AN ever-present in the best XI’s so far. The Dempo central defender produced another solid display at the back keeping the Sporting frontmen at bay. Julius Akpele (JCT): The JCT skipper came back from a thigh injury and led the JCT backline to keep a clean sheet after being pelted for six goals in the last two outings. The foreigner put on another towering display. Robert Lalthampuana (CB): The diminutive left-back wasn’t that effective in defense as going forward but he deserves a mention. He was an ideal ‘auxiliary’ striker for the Goan side against Mahindra United. Midfielders Baljeet Singh Sahni (JCT): Another fine performance from the left winger for JCT saw him win another Man of the Match award. He created havoc coming in from the left with his speed and accurate crossing. He gave JCT an early lead with his powerful shot in the fifth minute. Douglas da Silva (MB): The Brazilian was the object of criticism at the start of the season and many believed that the aging star wasn’t fit enough for the Kolkata side. However, this player has proved his detractors wrong with some excellent physical displays at the heart of Mohun Bagan midfield. He has been in good nick for the Kolkata giant which is surely a good sign of things to come. Climax Lawrence (Dem -pictured): His partner in the middle, Beto was down with viral fever and Lawrence had the responsibility of leading the midfield. He did it but with ease against Sporting. Anthony Pereira (Dem): This player has shown his true colors this season by putting some fine performances this season. He has become a key member of the Dempo squad and is marked as the opposition as the player to watch. Strikers Odafa Okolie (CB): How can you omit the man who demolished Mahindra United by scoring four? The Nigerian is on fire and has shown a glimpse of what he can do on his day. A true leader, he knows how to lead from the front and does it by scoring goals. Ranti Martins (Dem): A hat-trick against Sporing was enough for his side to snap another three points. Despite not being 100%, the Nigerian has played an important part in the team’s success. source:goal.com |
