East Bengal Hunt For A New Coach
The doors of former Mohan Bagan coach Amal Dutta and veteran East Bengal defender Manoranjan Bhattacharya have been knocked by now.
Speaking to Goal.com from Kolkata, Mr.Manoranjan Bhattacharya confirmed the interest saying, “Yes, I have been approached by the top officials. They came over to my house last evening for discussions.” Mr. Bhattacharya has been the coach of the Red and Gold earlier and took them to their first NFL title in 2000-01. The former defender has asked the officials for some time to get permission from his employers Bank of India before taking over the club reins. “Since childhood, I have been an East Bengal supporter. Now that the team is struggling, I want to help the club resurrect its position,” said Bhattacharya. But there is one issue which has to decide before taking over, which is his son’s education. “My son is in class XII and this is a crucial year for him. If I become the coach and then that would be a distraction as they tend to get involved.” Mr.Amal Dutta is reportedly keen to be the number one at East Bengal but some issues need to be sorted. “I was called by the officials and that’s all I can say for the moment,” said Dutta. Current coach Subrata Bhattacharya wasn’t available for comment but speculation continues over his sacking later in the day when the club’s executive body meets. source:goal.com |
