I-League Team Of The Week - Round 12

The result of the Kolkata derby was the same as the first round games while Salgaocar’s miseries were further increased by an injury time Odafa Okolie spot kick. JCT cashed on the dropped points by Dempo and Air India snatched three points thanks to a late header by Basheeru Abbas.
Goalkeeper
Prasanta Dora (JCT): Seems JCT aren’t short of quality custodians as the absence of number one Karanjit Singh doesn’t seem to affect the team. Dora has kept clean sheets in the last two games and denied the Viva strikers a deserved goal.
Defenders:
Parvinder Singh (Spo): The left back’s thundering shot in the first half against Air India was the highlight of an otherwise listless game. His runs up and down the left kept Air India in check.
Julius Akpele (JCT): The JCT skipper’s presence was enough to intimidate the Viva strikers. If Wisdom Abbey couldn’t do much in the game was thanks to the presence of this man.
Sunil Yadav (MU): What would you do when you play your first match in the I-League against champions Dempo? The boy from Punjab showed great composure and didn’t let any pass him. The frustrations of Dempo forwards was evident as they come up against a rock solid Sunil Yadav.
Sushant Matthew (MU): A super cross from the right resulted in the second goal scored by the Mahindras. The Keralaite has grown immensely under Coach Derrick Pereira and gave one of his better performances against defending champions Dempo.
Midfielders
Dharamjit Singh (MB): The left winger was at his best against East Bengal and created some good moves. He was denied by the woodwork however, the rebound was collected by a cool and calm Bhaichung to place it past Subrata Pal.
Sukhwinder Singh (MU): The former JCT man was employed in the midfield against a strong Dempo side. His task was to stop the free flowing Dempo game and he was successful in doing that as he kept Beto and Climax Lawrence in check throughout. He also intercepted a Mahesh Gawli clearance and sent n a scorching left footer to find the back of the net.
Douhou (MU): Though one may argue that the Cote D’Ivoire man started as a striker, he often came behind to help his teammates. Another wonder strike at Cooperage saw him become a favorite amongst the crowds.
Steven Dias (MU): The man who unlocked the Dempo defense in the first half. The Indian national team player was one of the best performers of the week and he got the better of his national teammate and Dempo left back Samir Naik on a number of occasions.
Strikers
It will be pleasing for the Indian fans to see the names of two of India’s best forwards perform to be in the best XI.
Bhaichung Bhutia (MB): His brace against East Bengal helped Bagan jump to fourth spot. He, alongwith Baretto, have been the key reason for the Green and Maroon's good showing in the league so far.
Sunil Chhetri (JCT): The Indian Player of the Year scored one and created one in a man of the match winning display which downed Viva Kerala at the Guru Nanak Stadium, Ludhiana.
