Climax Lawrence Scores A Brace To Sink JCT

Dempo are back to winning ways after two back-to-back away defeats and are again placed comfortably at the top with a four point lead. Meanwhile, JCT’s poor run of form in Goa continued against the champions as they haven’t managed a victory in three games this season. The home side started strongly as they looked to stamp their authority back in the league. Left winger Nicolau Borges was the beneficiary twice early in the game but failed to capitalize on both the occasions. Samir Naik’s ball for Anthony Pereira and the latter wasted no time in finding an unmarked Borges inside the box with only goalkeeper Karanjit to beat. The custodian parried Nicolau’s shot and saved some early blushes. Baljit Singh Sahni returning to the first team after some injury worries off late sent in a pass which tore the Dempo defense apart to find striker Sunil Chhetri as he headed home in the 18th minute. After the goal the one way traffic began as Dempo surged forward and asked questions of the JCT defense. Nascimento Silviera, filling in for an ailing Beto, came up with an appreciable performance in the middle as he allowed Climax to move forward. A sturdy Julius Akpele kept a check on the Dempo strikers and didn’t allow them much space to breathe in. Just before the half time whistle, the equalizer for Dempo came as Anthony Pereira crossed for Climax Lawrence to head home. JCT goalkeeper Karanjit Singh was in stunning form as he bailed out his side on numerous occasions in the second half. He first stopped a Chidi Edeh long ranger and then went on to save a Ranti Martins’ shot. Nicolau Borges found himself in good positions but never made the most of the chances. At last, Borges header looked goalwards bound until Karanjit once again stood between the defending champions and the winning goal. The winner came in the last minute as JCT citadel crumbled under pressure. Climax Lawrence beat his marker and struck the ball past Karanjit after brilliantly collecting a Ranti Martins' pass. The man of the match award undoubtedly went to Climax Lawrence for a fine brace and more importantly for dominating the midfield by initiating a number of attacks. Final Score: 2-1 Goalscorer Dempo: Climax Lawrence (43rd & 90th) Goalscorer JCT: Sunil Chhetri (18th) source:goal.com
