League Leaders Dempo Held By Air India

The league leaders appeared cruising after the victory over JCT in the previous round but failure to find the back of the net resulted in a goalless draw which now opens new avenues for second placed Churchill Brothers who are lurking just two points behind.
Air India meanwhile, have consolidated their position and occupy the sixth position with 17 points.
Both the teams didn’t start strong as they adopted a cautious approach without throwing enough men forward.
Dempo were expected to come out with most of the chances and they indeed did in the 22nd minute. Right-back Valeriano Rebello’s shot off a Nascimento Silviera ball missed the target by half a yard.
The Airmen defenders didn’t allow Dempo frontmen either space or an opportunity to receive the ball to create something. The only other chance of the first half for the home side was when Nascimento Silviera almost drew first blood only to see his shot being cleared from goalline by an alert Air India skipper Paresh Shivalkar.
The half time talk was enough to spur Dempo and they responded but creating a host of chances. Climax Lawrence sent in a pass for skipper Ranti Martins but the latter failed to hit the target.
The urgency in the Dempo camp was evident when coach Mauricio threw Beto in place of Nascimento to boost the midfield. Beto instantly made a difference by sending in a ball to Ranti who in turn passed for Chidi only to see the effort saved by the Air India custodian.
Substitute Antao’s cross from the right was headed out from a close range by Ranti Martins. Anthony Pereira was the unluckiest of the lot as his header hit the crossbar to rebound into play.
The man of the match award was given to Air India defender Nirmal Chhetri for keeping Dempo forwards in check for long periods.
Final Score: 0-0
