Coach Derrick Is All Praise For His Boys Ahead Of Final
“The reason why we have reached the finals of the IFA Shield is that our players have shown great commitment towards the end of the season. We have seen other teams criticizing the schedule and the tiring effect on their players but thankfully our players have stuck to the task,” said a proud Derrick Pereira.
The Goan coach hailed his team’s effort to reach the third consecutive final in a single season. “To reach the three Cup finals is an achievement in itself. This time though we want to end up on the winning side. “Except for Mohun Bagan and East Bengal no side has managed to keep the IFA Shield with itself for consecutive years. This adds to our motivation.” The Jeepmen seemed to be in sleeping mode as Santos drove them easily with a 2-0 victory earlier. But the finals, it shall be a different game promises Coach Derrick. “They (Santos) are good on counters and play a pressing game. However, they have some very good midfielders who are very much an important part of their game. “We have devised a strategy and let’s see how it comes for us.” The Red Devil coach also praised Manjt Singh whose thunderous strike gave Mahindra the IFA Shield last year against Bagan. “Manjit did well in the last game and scored an important goal for us. He lacks match fitness and is slowly gaining it. He’s still not 100% and I expect a lot from him.” source:goal.com |
